I often wonder about different mysteries of God that the bible doesn’t talk about. Things like eternity – what will it be like? What was the history of the angels? What goes on in Heaven?
Man is a curious creature who loves to explore and discover, and so the answer “I don’t know” isn’t very satisfying most of the time. There are certain mysteries which God has chosen not to reveal to us. Those secret things belong to Him only and we must be content to remain without them this side of eternity.
Deuteronomy 29:29 – “The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law.”
Paul went to Paradise temporarily. He heard things there which God doesn’t allow men to know on earth:
2 Corinthians 12:4 – “was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which a man is not permitted to speak.”
Even Paul did not disclose the few secrets he discovered because it is not God’s will for everyone to know these things. The bible tells us what we need to know, and reveals the greatest mystery of all - that the God of the universe came down in flesh and now lives in His people:
Colossians 1:26-27 “that is, the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has now been manifested to His saints, 27 to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
We mustn’t be caught up with all these mysteries and such. These are for God to know and He will have forever in eternity to reveal to His people His grand and lofty secrets to those whom He chooses. In this life, let’s grab onto the great reality of God’s love for us and the power of His Holy Spirit indwelling us. There’s no greater and more exciting truth for us to meditate on.
