"Jehovah is the portion of my inheritance, and of my cup; You shall uphold my lot." (Psa 16:5)
A question is often asked of believers: “What are the rewards in Heaven? What can I look forward to?”
Contrary to popular belief, a lavish mansion is not one of the things promised to us (see the NASB for a more accurate translation of John 14:2 than the KJV).
Our greatest promise is isn’t any golden streets or lack of pain. Our greatest promise isn't to have a full head of hair or a body that doesn't get tired. Our greatest promise is to have the Lord Himself! (Psa 16:5) He is our inheritance. We inherited the Lord Himself when we were born again and became children of God. The Lord is our inheritance – our fellowship with Him is our joy. This is the true meaning of “eternal life”:
"And this is life eternal, that they might know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent." (Joh 17:3)
This is the highest reward and enjoyment that can be experienced. There are beings in Heaven dwelling with God who are perfectly content doing nothing (not even sleeping!) but to sit by God at His throne forever singing, “Holy, Holy, Holy.”
"And each one of the four living creatures had six wings about him, and within being full of eyes. And they had no rest day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God, the Almighty, who was and is and is to come." (Rev 4:8)
Not only is the Lord our inheritance and joy, but we are His!
"Blessed is the nation whose God is Jehovah; the people He has chosen for His inheritance." (Psa 33:12)
"My Beloved is mine, and I am His." (Son 2:16)
Yes, even so much that God rejoices out loud because of us. Isn't that amazing? Did you know that the bible says He sings over us?
"He will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing." (Zep 3:17)
Once we are fully in God’s presence, and fully perfect, we will be able to perfectly worship and enjoy Him for eternity.
"In Your presence is fullness of joys. At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore." (Psa 16:11)
