Elijah was a man subject to like
passions as we are,
but alas, we are not men
of like prayer as he was.
His whole life is summed up in two words,
"He prayed."

Run Hard After Christ
Over the years I’ve met a multitude of Christians. They live life very carefree and unconcerned about godly things. I’ve also met a few select Christians who have made Christ everything to them. These few people have made a lasting impression on me. What’s the difference between these two?

Have you ever heard the story of the rabbit and the fox? The fox saw the rabbit and decided he want to eat him. The rabbit saw the fox and decided he wanted to live. They both ran and ran and ran. Eventually the fox got tired and gave up, deciding the meal wasn’t worth it. The rabbit got away with his life and was so relieved that he didn’t even notice how hard he’d been running. The fox was running for a meal, but the rabbit was running for his life.

The difference between serious believers and care-free believers is the same difference as that between the rabbit and the fox. One runs for a meal, the other runs for his life.  One has a low goal of obtaining some temporary pleasure and nourishment, the other has a much higher goal - to survive.

The serious Christians are the ones who live life like they’re trying to attain something. They run hard and press into Jesus. When they’ve found themselves in a lull, they pull themselves back up by the scruff of their neck and ask the Lord to renew their energy because they don’t want to fall behind. They run for their life.  They want to cleanse themselves of wickedness and be found pure in the eyes of God.  They draw near to their Lord in Heaven because they long to be with Him.  This is how we should all live.  Sometimes we call the Christian life a "walk" with God.  The more biblical term is a "race."

1 Corinthians 9:24“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. 9:25   Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.”

A Hundred Years From Now - Warren Parker

"It will not make much difference friend a hundred years from now,
If you live in a stately mansion or a floating river scow.
If the clothes you wear were tailor made or just pieced together somehow,
If you eat big steaks or beans and cake a hundred years from now.
It wont matter what your bank account or the make of car you drive,
For the grave will claim all your riches and fame and the things for which you strive.
There's a deadline that we all must meet, no one will show up late.
It wont matter all the places you've been each one will keep that date.
We will only have in eternity what we gave away on earth.
When we go to the grave we can only save the things of eternal worth.
What matters friend the earthly gain for which some men will bow?
For your destiny will be sealed you see, a hundred years from now"
